There’s still time to add to those New Years Resolutions lists! Here are a few fun, outdoor oriented ideas that are guaranteed to get you moving and exploring in the new year!
1. Try something new
Jump into a new activity! Try a new trail! Explore a new venue! This idea is #1, primarily because it’s the easiest! We’re fortunate to live in Maine, where every community has access to trails, parks, and recreation venues. In fact, with a little searching you might find a new adventure waiting for you in your own neighborhood that you didn’t even know existed!
Local organizations are great resources for new trails, venues, and activities. Many of our Great Maine Outdoor Weekend host organizations maintain trail systems, offer affordable rental equipment, and even provide guided programs to introduce new participants to the activities they offer! You don’t have to go out and buy ice skates, skis, or snowshoes before you can give them a try!
2. Get involved
If you’ve already settled on your favorite outdoor activity, then you’re in high demand! Local organizations and recreation programs are always looking for volunteers, new members, and leaders. Find your local outdoor club, land trust, or recreational facility and ask about opportunities to get involved. Become a youth coach, a program leader, an event volunteer, or just get yourself on these organization’s mailing lists!
Again, our Great Maine Outdoor Weekend host organizations are a great place to start. Did you attend (and love!) one of their GMOW events? Get in touch and find out what programs they offer year-round and how you can help!
3. Bring a friend!
Need a little motivation to get out the door? Bring a friend with you! Sharing outdoor adventures is a surefire way to add some fun to any activity. Bring family, your neighbor, your best friend, or even your dog!
