Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races, Fort Kent

2019 is the 27th year of the sled dog races in Fort Kent. They are always held the first weekend in March. This year on March 2, We have a Main Street start for a 30-mile race, a 100-mile race and a 250-mile race. The Saturday start brings up to 6,000 people to the community of 3,600 people. The Fort Kent Outdoor Center also holds ski-joring competitions in four K, 8 K and 10 K teams on March 2 and 3. The local Snowmobile Club holds and antique Snowmobile Parade and Ride. Purses for the Can-Am Crown mushers are up to $44,000. Mushers come from throughout the North American Snow belt for the competitions. It is the largest mushing competition in the eastern U.S. The 30 and 100 mile mushers start and finish on Saturday and the 250-mile teams finish in the early morning hours of Monday.
